Sick Joy will headline Docks Academy on Friday 29th July thanks to The National Lottery's Revive Live Tour, in association with Music Venue Trust.
Tickets are £8 + booking fee and are sold on a buy one get one free basis.
Following the Revive Live appearance of Red Rum Club in January, Docks Academy looks forward to welcoming Sick Joy. This Newcastle-born and now Brighton based three-piece - Mykl Barton (guitar/vocals), Drew Michael (drums) and Danny Piston (bass) - cuts together malign heaviness with acidic melody then tying into place with the reigns of contagious pop.
Sick Joy's 'noise-pop' blood is dirtied with echoes of Pixies and Nirvana among many others. Their debut single April 2017 'Stars' had 3000+ Spotify hits, they have been championed by Nick Roberts at BBC Introducing and John Kennedy's "Exposure Hot One". The follow-up single, 'Cat In A Bird Cage' had 2000+ Spotify Hits, 12000+ video views. Make sure you’re in the Academy to hear the sweet sounds of “pop’s ugly sister.”
We are pleased to be putting on this gig with Music Venue Trust which is continuing its National Lottery association to help Revive Live music in grassroots music venues across the UK. This is just one of hundreds of live music shows being funded by The National Lottery, helping to kickstart quality live music and put artists back into venues where they belong. We’re inviting you to buy a ticket for one of these shows, and because we know you have been itching to get back out and see some live music, when purchasing you can claim another ticket courtesy of The National Lottery ABSOLUTELY FREE!
All you need to do to qualify for this offer is to show proof on the door that one of you is a National Lottery player, either with a physical ticket, or using the National Lottery app.
The age requirement for this event is 14 plus. Under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Accessibility:
We are sorry to report that, due to Covid19's significant impact on our business, we are still not yet wheelchair accessible. Currently, the only way of entering the Docks Academy is via a flight of stairs. However, our mid-term plans include a wheelchair-accessible lift coming up to a new external balcony which will have level access to the venue, funding allowing. Please rest assured wheelchair access remains our highest priority and as soon as we have reopened with our non-socially distanced programme we will look at this in earnest. We are grateful for your forbearance.
