East Marsh United is delighted to be working in partnership with Docks Academy to bring the best in British Jazz to the area. EMU secured funding from Arts Council England to deliver a grassroots music programme for the next two years. As well as bringing a number of excellent performers to the area, the project will offer young people opportunities to rehearse and record their own music, put on their own live events and have mentoring and support from local professional musicians. There will also be community music-making events and workshops.
We hope that the project will be the beginning of a longer-term partnership focused on bringing great jazz back to Grimsby.
The Nigel Price Organ Trio, nominated for the 2021 Parliamentary Jazz Award for 'Best ensemble' (they won in 2010) and winners of the 2016 British Jazz Award for ‘Best Small Group’ will be playing selections from their vast back catalogue as well as the recently released and critically acclaimed 'Wes Re-Imagined' (2021 Ubuntu), an album that celebrates the compositions of jazz guitar icon Wes Montgomery, but reworked into new, unexpected feels.
Nigel is known for his clear, no-nonsense, driving approach to jazz guitar and has steadily become one of the UK’s foremost exponents of the instrument.
Ross Stanley is not only one of the greatest ever UK musicians, but he also plays a real B3 Hammond Organ complete with 2 Leslie speakers.
Joel Barford is the man of the moment and has been causing a stir across the UK and further afield with his incredible drumming ability. He was featured in the ‘Taking Off’ section in last month’s Jazzwise magazine.
Together they form perhaps the most hard-hitting, dynamic and exciting jazz groups on the scene today.
"Inventiveness, originality and ensemble playing are terrific." ★★★★ The Observer
“For me, this is how jazz should be; communicative and inclusive. Jazz performed this way feels like a gift, a ‘here, this is for you’ scenario.” London Jazz News
