Geoff norcott: basic bloke | 09.02.24

Comedian Geoff Norcott brings his “BASIC BLOKE” tour to Grimsby on Friday 9th February!

On this his sixth UK tour, Geoff Norcott will be trying to make sense of the current cultural and political scene with his playfully provocative brand of humour. Whether it’s the dire blandness of the two main parties or the shamelessly shoe-horned right-on messages in adverts and films, Geoff will continue to tread in areas much of comedy leaves well alone. But this time around he also has a mission. As well as casting his everyman eye over what’s happening in wider society, Geoff is trying to unpick what’s happening with your average bloke. Remember them?

A kindly and funny stock-take of both himself his fellow man, BASIC BLOKE unlocks some of the more complicated behaviour of your husbands, dads and brothers.

“He has become one of our most refreshingly funny comedians of any stripe.” ★★★★ Dominic Maxwell, The Times

“He’s a class act with a mature, sharp take on modern politics.” Sunday Times

lowercase theatre: common ground event recap

Local theatre company Lowercase presented their first show – Common Ground, a night of Music and Theatre on Saturday 3rd February.

The night featured live music performances from local singer/songwriter Jaz Beeson and her live band, plus music from Moon Pocket. There was also a stellar exhibition of artists’ work spread throughout the Academy space. Organisers Lisa, Matty, and Owen also performed a work-in-progress extract of their debut theatre piece ‘is it dead out?’.

Docks is delighted to support this emerging local theatre company and it was great to see them transform our space into a hub for the creatives of North East Lincolnshire.

Lowercase Theatre, is a Grimsby-based arts organisation committed to developing new work rooted in the community and making space for young creatives in North East Lincs to thrive.

Circa Waves at Docks Academy in Grimsby 2024

when circa waves came to grimsby...

Pictured to the left with the Docks Academy team are the lads from the mighty Circa Waves. They headlined Docks Academy at the end of January as part of their rescheduled tour ‘Do You Wanna Tour? Pt.2’.

Recognising the opportunity to help charities in the eight UK towns and cities the tour visited, the band decided to donate a portion of tour profits to a foodbank in each area and invited the customers of each venue to make food donations. For Grimsby, donations were for the benefit of the local Food Bank, Feed The Community.

Feed the Community was created in October 2020 by Lacey Langridge during the Covid-19 outbreak. Initially, the food bank was run from her home, where herself and volunteers delivered food packages to those in need.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on a school night for this unforgettable night for our venue, and a special mention to those who brought food donations for Feed the Community.
