We cannot wait to welcome probably the greatest modern soul band to emerge from the UK to the Church in 7 days time.
Smoove & Turrell have been one of the most consistent performers of a unique UK soul style in the last decade and they returned in 2020 with “Stratos Bleu”, their sixth studio album. The band hail from Newcastle and they have been heavily championed by BBC 6 Music Presenter and soul lover Craig Charles. Their material draws on subject matters which are aimed to make us stop and think, such as the politically charged ‘Hate Seeking Missile’, and uplifting stompers like ‘I Feel Alive’.
Supporting Smoove & Turrell will be Vandebilt. A limited number of tickets for the gig are still available priced at £15.
Regular stand-up comedy finally comes home to roost in Grimsby when our Covid-delayed monthly comedy club nights get underway.
On the bill this month are four comedians with a wealth of experience. Headlining the show is Rob Rouse, one of the UK’s best comic storytellers. Also performing will be Eric Rushton, the winner of the ‘Leicester Mercury Comedian of The Year’ award in 2020. Kicking off the show will be Simon Wozniak, who’s one of the most hotly-tipped comedians to breakthrough this year. And Pete Otway will be the MC for the night. He’s a former BBC New Comedy Award Finalist and also the act who brought the house down when supporting Lloyd Griffith’s appearance at the Church in March 2020.

Turn Up The Music and buckle up for this one! Under the guidance of the Ghanaian force of nature Kweku Sackey, aka K.O.G, and Jamaican rapper Franz Von, the 8-piece Zongo Brigade deliver infectious high-energy rap, operative vocals, hard hitting patois, unmistakable African rhythms, electric brass and thunderous percussion. With influences from afrobeat, soul, funk, rock and reggae they have fast gained recognition in the UK, Ghana and around Europe with their totally original sound that leaves every crowd dripping with sweat and begging for more.
KOG’s signature mix of songs, raps, operatic vocal effects and stage antics are backed up by hard-hitting patois raps from Jamaican Franz Von Song, and a dedicated band of serious musical badmen. The band have played huge stages including Glastonbury West Holts, Reading and Leeds Festival, and clubs and venues across Europe.

Supporting K.O.G. & The Zongo Brigade will be Kings & Bears, a trio influenced by the sounds of soul, funk, reggae and rock.

On Saturday 9th October, the next Red Herring Comedy Club takes place, this time featuring Marlon Davis, Josh Jones, Julian Deane and Rich Wilson. At the end of the month, Lloyd Griffith, Grimsby’s favourite comedian returns to perform two sell-out shows and also we welcome The Sherlocks for their long awaited sell-out gig.
Top funny man Tom Stade is here on Wednesday 10th November just a few days before the next Red Herring Comedy Club which has on the bill Rosie Jones, Matt Bragg, Sarah Keyworth and Danny McLoughlin. And bringing the month – and 2021 – to a close will be the 90s electronica pioneers Stereo MC’s.
