Grimsby’s ONLY spoken word jam and poetry night, Red Sail makes their Docks Academy debut on Saturday 6th April!

Expect new emerging talent, live music accompaniment for performers and a charity art raffle. Maybe it’s time to show us what you’ve got? RED SAIL is an open mic platform to spotlight local voices. Whether you’re a notes app Shakespeare, an open mic pro, or a happy observer, everyone is welcome.

Raffle tickets are available – cash and card accepted – for those who want to be in with a chance of winning some new and original artwork from award-winning local artists. Ceramist Sunshine Child continues her collaboration with us, donating a bespoke 1/1 piece, as well as Francesca Young with a stunning framed illustration. All raffle proceeds will be donated to the Neurosurgery Unit, Hull Royal Infirmary, NHS Trust.

Docks Academy’s next Red Herring Comedy Club night is on Saturday 13th April, featuring four fab comics from the comedy circuit!!

Brennan Reece is a multi-award-winning working-class wordsmith (Edinburgh Best Newcomer Nominee and English Comedian Of The Year Winner). His boyish cheeks recently cropped up on Survival Of The Fittest (ITV), The Stand Up Sketch Show (ITV) Live At The Comedy Store (Comedy Central) and racking up over 6 million YouTube hits for his stint on Top Gear (BBC).

Daniel Foxx is an award-winning comedian and writer. Named ‘utterly hilarious and effortlessly charismatic’ by Rolling Stone Magazine, his hit debut show VILLAIN achieved a complete sell-out extended run at the Edinburgh Fringe 2023 and saw him nominated for the NextUp ‘Biggest Award in Comedy’.

Julian Deane’s style has been described by The Guardian as ‘Deliciously twisted. A stream of seriously good gags. Quick, sharply written and endlessly repeatable lines.’

Since starting comedy in 2017, Liverpool comedian Dean Coughlin has performed all over the UK including Edinburgh, and overseas in Australia and New Zealand.

Local music students from the Grimsby Institute for Higher Education takeover Docks Academy on Thursday 18th April to showcase their bands in a live setting.

Supporting the next generation of musical talent, Docks Academy will be ‘taken over’ by students of the Grimsby Institute for a one-off event which gives a platform to the students and allows them to perform in an established venue.

At this free event, which is open to all, the students will perform in front of a crowd and gain essential stage experience. The evening will feature six bands of various styles and genres, and music will range from covers of popular rock and indie tracks to the students’ original music.

Docks Academy is delighted to be supporting the young music students of GIFHE and hopes our regular gig-goers will support this night of emerging North East Lincolnshire talent.

The Gig Cartel presents British Post Punk band Theatre of Hate, on Friday 19th April 2024, with support from Headsticks!

Led by singer/songwriter, Kirk Brandon, Theatre of Hate released their iconic debut studio album, Westworld, that was produced by Mick Jones of The Clash and entered the Top 20 charts in the UK. Known for being one of the era’s best live acts, Theatre of Hate have continued building upon that legacy.

With an ever-growing fanbase at their side, Headsticks are reaching new heights with their self-proclaimed ‘Revolutionary Punk Roots Rock’n’Roll’ which has cross-genre appeal seeing the band gaining endless plaudits from pillars of the Folk/Roots, Post Punk, Punk, and even the rock and blues fraternities.

Two leading blues rock artists, who are currently among the top new international touring acts in the genre, are joining forces to tour the UK backed by their full electric and high-energy live bands:

Sari Schorr with her jaw-dropping voice and a live show that erupts like a volcano have catapulted Sari into the spotlight as one of the hottest new blues-rock singers today. The native New Yorker is taking the blues world by storm, and with a voice that jolted legendary blues producer Mike Vernon (think Fleetwood Mac, Clapton, and Bowie) out of retirement, it’s not hard to see why. It’s no wonder that Blues Matters said, “The future of blues is in good hands. Sari is a gift to all of us from the Blues Gods.”

Matt Pearce & The Mutiny are classic, pulsating blues-rock tinged with latin, funk and soul. Imagine Joe Cocker, Santana, Prince & Stevie Wonder playing some seriously funky guitar. Matt is also an original member of the successful hard rock outfit Voodoo Six, releasing five albums including one recorded in L.A. at Steve Vai’s ‘Mothership Studios’.
