Co-founding member of The Beautiful South, Dave Hemingway brings his new band Sunbirds, to Grimsby on Friday 5th May 2023, with support from Alex Henderson.
Having retired from the live scene at the back end of 2016, Dave has been keeping busy together with erstwhile South colleague, guitarist/songwriter Phil Barton, new discovery singer/violinist Laura Wilcockson and drummer Marc Parnell.
The band’s sound predominantly features the instrumentation of traditional American roots music combined with the occasional outburst of guitar-heavy melody more associated with Seattle in the late ’80s / early ’90s.
Supporting Sunbirds is Grimsby-Born, Multi-Instrumentalist, Singer and Songwriter, Alex Henderson. A musician currently studying in Leeds whose influences are drawn from far and wide, from his small-town upbringing to his time living in Leeds. Alex performs regular live sets, both acoustically, as well as with his band on many of the stages in the city.

Indie Rock band CUD will take to the stage at Docks Academy on Friday 12th May 2023!
Emerging from the same art/design cauldron that produced fellow Leeds legends Soft Cell, Scritti Politti, and The Mekons, CUD were the pre-Britpop answer to doleful shoegazing bands – fun-loving, light-hearted, romantic and downright catchy.
Alternatively loved or loathed like a yeast extract, CUD is indie rock for the unpretentious pleasure seeker, boasting as they do the rich deep-lunged voice of Carl Puttnam, edgy guitars of Mike Dunphy and tight, funky rhythm section of William Potter, bass and Gogs Byrn, drums.
CUD will be supported by Kingsway, a 5-piece unsigned Rock n’ Roll band from Scunthorpe. They cite iconic acts such as The Rolling Stones, The Strokes and Jimi Hendrix as their biggest influences, with their songs having a distinctive groove element that gets pulses racing and feet moving.

The SoapGirls, French-born sisters from Cape Town, are often described as the world’s hardest-working duo. They write outsider anthems with grunge-infused guitars overlaid with harmonic vocals, huge melodious overtones and metal growls that are androgynous, audacious and straight from the heart. Their DIY attitude and unbridled work ethic has led to them being named a band to watch out for by music critics around the globe.
Suburban Toys, from Lincoln, has been providing a consistent diet of Punk Ska across a number of festivals and shows since July 2021. They have also supported the likes of Big Country, Dr.Feelgood, Duncan Reid & The Big Heads, Eddie & The Hot Rods, Newtown Neurotics, Peter & The Test Tube Babies, The Ruts (DC), Skids, Tom Robinson Band, UK Subs, and The Wildhearts.

Scottish Alternative Rock band, Twin Atlantic coming to Grimsby for a super intimate festival warm-up at Docks Academy on Saturday 27th May!
Their most recent album, Transparency, is Twin Atlantic as you’ve never known them. Ten candid, funny, funky songs find frontman Sam McTrusty spilling his guts on everything from marriage, male friendship and the absurdity of social media to parenthood, medication and his mum.
Written in strained circumstances and recorded remotely with Sam’s mate and mentor Jacknife Lee (U2, The Killers, Taylor Swift). Transparency arrived more by accident than design, an experiment that snowballed when the world went into lockdown.
To date, the band has released six studio albums, with five of those reaching the Top 40 on the UK Charts, with their most recent release Transparency reaching No.11 in the charts.
There are a very small number of tickets left, priced at £25, plus fees. The age requirement for this event is 14+ (U18s to be accompanied).
In the last five weeks, we have announced several high-profile shows: Wheatus, Cockney Rejects, Twin Atlantic, We Are Scientists, Space and Clinton Baptiste. Many of them are already sold out!
