In this newsletter, you’ll learn about our new subsidised ticket scheme for 14-25-year-olds, a new initiative to use the space for rehearsals, as well as several upcoming shows!

Subsidised Ticket Costs 14-25 Docks Academy

14-25 years old? you can claim free tickets to some of our shows!

Last month we announced that we have been awarded grant funding to subsidise ticket costs, thanks to the support from the Arts Council England!

There’s no catch – we genuinely want you to experience the incredible atmosphere of Docks Academy, which is why we’re offering a limited number of tickets for free from now until 2026. These tickets are available through a simple system exclusively for those signed up to our young people mailing list.

If you are aged 16 years and over, you are able to complete the form independently. If you are aged 14 to 15, you will require a parent / guardian to complete the form for you.

If you are under the age of 18, you will require a parent / guardian to attend the event with you. They will need to purchase their own ticket to the event at full price and will not be eligible for a free ticket.

Apollo Junction

Alternative Rock band Apollo Junction is coming to Grimsby on Friday 3rd May, and is bringing Sandra’s Wedding and Revivalry along too!

Their most recent album ‘Here We Are’ was Apollo Junction’s first to hit the chart and was number 11 in the physicals and 8 in the vinyl chart in release week. They have a big summer lined up with some huge outdoor shows too alongside the likes of Richard Ashcroft, Shed Seven and The Sherlocks.

Drawing comparisons with iconic northern guitar bands like The Housemartins and The Smiths, Sandra’s Wedding are a Goole-based band who wear their working class routes firmly on their sleeves.

Revivalry are a Cleethorpes UK, teenage band aged 15 – 16 that are making waves, comprising Ben Townsend (vocals & guitar), Josh Corfield (vocals & bass) and Lewis Hubbert (drums). Already having supported Reverend & The Makers and Corella as well as having played gigs and festivals around the country, including Kendal Calling, Tramlines and Humber Street Sesh.

our next new music night!

Our next fresh catch night, Fresh Catch 5, which features Mosaics, Ever and Kid Spirit, taking place on Saturday 4th May is fast approaching!

Mosaics fuse the best of the 90’s Rock Revival with the shimmer of contemporary indie, observational lyricism, fuzzy tones and anthemic choruses. With multiple global TV sync placements to their name, Mosaics are making waves with features on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, ITV’s This Morning, BBC Introducing & Future Hits Radio.

EVER are a young energetic Alt-Rock band from Cleethorpes. Comprised of Isaac heading up on lead vocals/rhythm guitar, Mckenzie on lead guitar/backing vocals, Max on Drums and Connor on Bass. Having already been played on BBC introducing, EVER has a strong fan base on social media, with millions of views online. Musical influences include Nirvana, Radiohead, Foo Fighters, Green Day, and Blink-182.

Kid Spirit is an alt-rock, synth-pop quartet from Lincolnshire, UK. After relocating from Sussex, Luke Parker (vox/keys) reformed the group in 2023 with a fresh new lineup by welcoming former band flames and friends alike, Steve Heather (bass), Lewis Duckworth (guitar) and Matt Bell (drums).

As a vibrant and dynamic hub for music enthusiasts in North East Lincolnshire, we pride ourselves on fostering local talent and providing aspiring artists with a platform to cultivate their skills at Docks Academy. We understand that the financial burden of hiring a space can dampen creative spirits, hindering the exploration of artistic potential.

That’s why we’re thrilled to share some exciting news: thanks to the generous support from the Arts Council England and successfully securing the Supporting Grassroots Music Fund, we’re delighted to offer complimentary rehearsal space for North East Lincolnshire musicians, artists and bands until 2026! It’s time to amplify your music aspirations without worrying about budget constraints.

Red Herring Comedy Club | 11.05.24

Following last month’s Red Herring Comedy Night, next month’s takes place on Saturday 11th May!

Headlining May’s Red Herring Comedy Club Night is Lebanese Essex Moron, Esther Manito, as seen on Series 16 Live At The Apollo, ITV2’s Stand Up Sketch Show, Winner of Best Show at Leicester Comedy Festival 2021, First Edinburgh show is now on Next Up and Britbox, the First female comedian to perform at Dubai Opera House & Arab woman of the Year.

Faizan Shah is a Manchester-based comic who moved to the UK as a child, his well-crafted jokes make light of growing up in an immigrant household and the inevitable mental health challenges it brings.

One of comedy’s most lively, loveable and dynamic performers, Rob Rouse won Channel 4’s Prestigious So You Think You’re Funny competition at the Edinburgh Festival in way back in 1998. He’s one of our best comic storytellers, has performed all over the world and works long-form narratives into hard-hitting, uncompromising hilarious tales filled with warmth and a sense of compassion for our collective human frailties.

MC for the night, Harry Stachini is the comedian to watch in this new decade. Slowly but surely climbing up the ranks of the stand-up comedy world, Harry has established a reputation as an exciting young comedian with an impressive easy-going style.

Pip Blom

pip blom are coming to grimsby late bank holiday weekend!

Amsterdam-based indie band, Pip Blom are coming to Grimsby on Monday 27th May!

24-year-old Amsterdam-based Pip Blom started writing, recording and releasing her own indie-pop tunes with a twist in 2016. Early songs, which were simply uploaded to the internet, quickly amassed thousands and thousands of plays – prompting Pip to recruit a band and start playing them live. Since then, the band have played hundreds of gigs, rising from small pubs to the European festival circuit with for example performances at Glastonbury and Lolapalooza.

– Dork: “Filled back-to-back with dance-worthy bangers.
