We’re thrilled to announce that our Open House initiative, aimed at combatting loneliness and providing a safe space for all once a month, has received funding from Orsted!

This funding will allow us to continue delivering and developing Open House. To help ensure as many people get as much out of the scheme as possible we’re currently consulting with attendees, plus we’re also inviting feedback from the wider community.

How can we build on what we currently offer? We help attendees with meeting new people and building friendships. Plus we provide time to chat one to one with our team, or in a group chat setting. We offer general support with all kinds of things including mental health. We provide games and other fun activities, and a space to learn new skills (cooking, music, crafts).

We’re keen for our attendees to have more access to arts and culture and from time to time we offer free tickets to events in Docks Academy… What else could we be doing? Or what could we be doing differently?

We’ve added the legendary K-Klass to our Funk, House and Disco night THIS FRIDAY!

Funk My Life (FML) is bringing melodic vibes to Docks Academy, expect old-school piano classics infused with NuDisco and a big dose of today’s House sound.

Aside from K-Klass’ DJ and Live PA set, expect top sets from DJs Bri Buckle, DJ By Name, Maramajam, and Moo (UK).

K-Klass are responsible for some of the biggest dance tracks ever made. For over a quarter of a century, they have rocked dance floors and live gigs without fail, racking up no fewer than 5 UK top 40 hits and a GRAMMY Nomination along the way.

Propaganda returns to Docks Academy on Saturday 28th October for a Halloween Spooktacular, following last year’s Sold Out Halloween party!

We’ll be decorating the venue up with spooky decs, and fancy dress is very much encouraged. We ran a ‘best costume’ competition with prizes up for grabs so get creative, you may win something! There’s been costumes of all sorts, from Oogie boogie, Spiderman, even the dreaded ‘Energy Bills’!

At Propaganda you can expect the biggest indie/alternative bangers, including every singalong anthem from The Killers, Arctic Monkeys, The 1975, Tame Impala, Pale Waves and many more. Propaganda’s DJs have played at some of the biggest festivals and events in the world! Including Glastonbury, Big Day Out, Reading & Leeds and Benicassim. Propaganda Records released Yungblud’s first vinyl record, ‘I Love You Will You Marry Me’, and Yungblud performed a live Propaganda tour across their UK events in 2017!

Poet Luke Wright returns to Docks Academy on Friday 10th November with his ‘Silver Jubilee’ show!

Over twenty-five years, Luke Wright has built up a reputation for being one of Britain’s most popular live poets. He has won an unprecedented four Saboteur Awards (national awards for spoken word), a Stage Award, and a Fringe First. He’s sold out shows across the world and regularly tours with John Cooper Clarke and The Libertines.

We’ve not done a ‘Meet The Team’ in a while, so wanted to introduce you all to Lizzie (left) and Caitlin (right).

Lizzie is our Docks Academy Front of House Manager! An interesting fact about her is that she also runs a not-for-profit organisation allowing access to the arts for people with learning disabilities, mental health conditions or who have an economic disadvantage.

Caitlin is our Assistant Front of House Manager started in 2022 and was promoted to this role this April. In between working 2 jobs (at Docks Academy and as a hairdresser/nail technician), she spends time looking after her 2-year-old daughter, her cat and dog.
