Docks Academy has recently won a funding bid through the Arts Council England for Grassroots Music! This funding has raised £40,000 to make improvements to the venue’s accessibility, as well as supporting the development and expansion of our grassroots music programme.
This funding, over the next three years, includes the installation of a defibrillator, and a noise management system so that we can protect both our staff, and the audience from noise-related damage to hearing.
As mentioned previously, we will also be developing our Grassroots programming, which will enable grassroots musicians to be able to perform more on the stage. It also will provide young people free tickets to attend shows, to inspire and foster a culture of gig-going again in the town, which has been missing for so long in the area.
We will also continue to Provide grassroots musicians a level up opportunity to support mainstream artists as part of the wider Docks Academy music programme, especially as we expand our programming over the next three years, and will continue our Fresh Catch programme over the next three years
We recently welcomed David from DB Jones to Docks Academy, ahead of their Fresh Catch 3 appearance for a chat and an acoustic session of two of their songs, which you can learn about in this blog post.
Last week, we released their first performance from this session, which sees David cover their song ‘Chasing The Feeling’. Be sure to keep an eye out on our socials to stay up to date when the other videos are released.
DB Jones is a 4-Piece indie-rock band from Lincoln. With catchy hooks, a highly energetic and tight live performance, they’re not a band to be missed.
DB Jones will perform at our local music night, Fresh Catch, which will see them share the stage with Grimsby bands, ‘The Loving Memory’, and ‘Lonerz’, as well as Hull band ‘Archy and the Astronauts’.
Tickets are still available for this event here. Support local music today!
On Thursday 7th September, we welcome back one of the first bands that took to the Docks Academy Stage, October Drift, with support from local lads Mint, and Free Man & The Blundells.
Since appearing on the scene in 2015, October Drift have gained a reputation for delivering blistering, high-energy live shows. Their first tour sold out before even releasing their first single, such is the buzz around their live performances, and have become one of the major success stories on the independent circuit.
Mint is a loud and energetic cocktail made from parts of Iggy Pop and The Hives. Hailing from Grimsby Town, Mint can be described as the erratic and gut-busting Rock’n’Roll that your father smokes cigars to. With a Live Lounge under their belt, they are also heavily championed by Radio 1, Kerrang!, BBC 6 Music, Radio X, BBC Introducing, Channel 4 and ITV This Morning.
This show is brought to you as part of the Music Venue Trust and The National Lottery’s United By Music Tour and operates on a Buy One Get One Free scheme, so grab yours here.
Step into a magically decorated Academy Wonderland, and enjoy mouth-watering street food from Mockingbird, plus the very best festive live entertainment in the county all included in the price.
Your host for the night will be cabaret superstar and internet sensation (1.5m followers on TikTok and 1m on Instagram) Stage Door Johnny! A flirtatious, lyrical lothario with razor-sharp wit, he’s had audiences the length and breadth of the country grinning, giggling and eating from the palm of his hand – sometimes literally. He will introduce our DJ sessions, featuring DJ Josh Marshall, and one of the UK’s very best covers bands – The Revellers – who will bring the Christmas party vibes like you have never seen and heard before.
