The last few months have been no laughing matter. Docks Academy has been hunkering down and keeping a close eye on the performing arts industry as it got skittled by COVID-19. But now we’ve had enough of hunkering.

After weeks of planning we’re thrilled to announce a limited run of safe and socially distanced events in the Docks Academy. Every box has been ticked:  temperature scanning, contactless tickets, socially distanced tables of no more than 6, no queuing for the loo, table service only, and all our staff in masks.  You will feel safe as houses.

We are starting where we left off - with comedy. We’re proud to present the DOCKS ACADEMY COMEDY LOCK-IN - two special evenings of stand-up with three comics guaranteed to administer a hefty dose of laughter. And you know what they say - laughter is the best medicine.

Lloyd Griffith

Leading the charge and hosting these nights will be the Grimbarian who needs no introduction - he’s one of our own - Lloyd Griffith.  Lloyd has helped us plan the LOCK-IN from the outset and has managed to secure two other brilliant comedians to join him:

Paul McCaffrey

You may have seen him on Live at the Apollo, Russell Howard’s Good News, Impractical Jokers or Stand Up Central and he’s spent a few years supporting the biggest names in UK comedy including Kevin Bridges, Sean Lock, Michael McIntyre, Lee Mack, Jason Manford and John Bishop. Paul will charm our guests with his warm, chatty style and all-too-relatable conversations.

Daliso Chaponda

Britain’s Got Talent finalist and Amanda Holden’s golden buzzer act comedian Daliso began his comedy career in Canada with the acclaimed one man show ‘Feed This Black Man’. Following this, he began honing his craft in comedy clubs across the country.  He regularly appears in comedy clubs and theatres across the world. He has been part of the Melbourne, Edinburgh, Singapore, Cape Town, and Montreal Festivals.

Tickets are £12.50 per person plus booking fee. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, tables will need to be purchased as a whole.

We are sorry to report that, due to Covid19's significant impact on our business, we are still not yet wheelchair accessible. Currently, the only way of entering the Docks Academy is via a flight of stairs. However, our mid term plans include a wheelchair accessible lift coming up to a new external balcony which will have level access to the venue, funding allowing. Please rest assured wheelchair access remains our highest priority and as soon as we have reopened with our non socially distanced programme we will look at this in earnest. We are grateful for your forbearance.
