ivw23: life + serial chiller | 03.02.23

Docks Academy and Independent Venue Week presents Post-punk band Life, as part of their Northern Coastal Towns Tour on Friday 3rd February 2023!

Hull’s post-punk absurdist polemics LIFE made quite an impact with their DIY debut album. 2017’s Popular Music was championed by BBC 6Music’s Steve Lamacq and won firm fans (and friends) in fellow post-punkers Idles. They’re the first four-piece guitar band from Hull to make a big splash since the halcyon days of the Housemartins way back in the 1980s.

Serial Chiller is a slacker punk three-piece that force together lyrics on work-life anxieties and internet-induced dread over taut bass and pounding drums. The band are on tour throughout January and February, all whilst they are working on new music ready to be released soon.

Tickets are still available, and cost £12.50+ B.F. Ages 14+ (U18s to be accompanied)

seth lakeman | 10.02.23

February will see Westcountry folk singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Seth Lakeman come to Docks Academy on Friday 10th February!

Presented by The Gig Cartel, this tour follows on from a busy 2022 including tour dates, festivals and even a run of harbourside performances travelling by ship! Mercury Prize Nominee Seth will be touring the UK and Europe on this leg, including a stop off in Grimsby!

Seth was part of the ‘Sea Song Sessions’ album – a collection of British maritime folk songs and sea shanties released in September 2022 on Topic Records. Performed by Jon Boden, Seth, Ben Nicholls, Emily Portman and Jack Rutter, they celebrated the release by sailing into Looe Harbour on the Anny of Charlestown to perform on the Quay. Seth and others then sailed on to perform in Charlestown Harbour and Falmouth.
